The greatest moments of countries across the world have been captured and through film been revived. Alejandro González Iñárritu is a Mexican film director, producer and screenwriter. Iñárritu is a decorated film director with Amores Perros, Babel, The Revenant being his top films. Iñárritu has won various Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Oscars among others for his movies. Born in Mexico City Iñárritu has become a transcontinental film director that has dominated the Mexican film industry and now is making his impact on Hollywood. His films’ trademark is the importance of human connection and the lengths one must go to obtain it or establish it. This comparison of Babel and Amores Perros emerged for the structural similarities of the films. Both films revolve around a tragic accident and both involve multiple people from different socioeconomic, religious, and even political backgrounds establishing a connection and encounter at the end of the film. Through his camera lens Iñárritu transports the viewer to different parts of the world. In the process the viewer creates their own conclusions of various cultures. However, have these ideas, through his lens, been oversimplified, exaggerated or is the truth simply too much for the audience to handle? This paper, through these two films, will explain the impact the camera lens has on the culture, people and countries it has visited.
