Throughout history stories have been structured using a narrative formula. This has carried into the contemporary storytelling of film, where modern audiences have built their own understanding of narrative languages. But sometimes these films go against audience expectations and audience reactions can go to extreme places of dissonance. Is this response due to the deconstruction of established structures and mythology story, or do audiences feel a sense of ownership that entitles them to outrage to when the story does not go as they expect? What does this modern reaction say of our morality in the context of our films?
