Through a series of podcasts, I aim to build awareness and education to listeners and help eliminate any stigmas associated with dementia. Baby boomers make up the current largest living adult generation. In Buncombe county 19.4 percent of the population consists of senior citizens and the number continues to increase due to the aging of baby boomers and the fact that more and more retirees move to the area annually. Chances are listeners have a family member, neighbor, co-worker or know of someone affected by dementia. Many UNC Asheville graduates may find themselves in careers involving the elderly or may take on the role of caregiver for a loved one. By speaking with medical professionals, organizations devoted to dementia care and education, caregivers and those suffering from dementia I hope to bring awareness to a disease that still has no cure. I want to paint a clear picture as to what dementia is, how it affects everyone, and what can be done for future generations.
