Asheville attracts thousands of visitors a year, largely due to the scenic mountains that surround the growing city. Asheville is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise, located conveniently close to Pisgah national forest, the second most visited national forest in the entire country, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, the most visited national park in the country, and just an hours drive from Mount Mitchell, the tallest point east of the Mississippi River. Through a series of journalistic articles I examined different issues within in the outdoor community in Western North Carolina. I spoke with individuals, government agencies, local organizations and experts about the diverse issues that dot the outdoor community in WNC with the hope to expose and increase conversation about these problems
